Today I woke up full of beans and decided to bake the banana, coffee and date cakes from Peter Gordons Everyday.  A few weeks ago I was making bobotie and bought some bananas for the chutney, then promptly ran out of domestic goddess magic and just could not be bothered.  This meant a kitchen with very very ripe bananas and everybody knows when you have overripe bananas, make banana bread (usually).  Reading Peters book the other week I saw these little cakes with coffee and was so intrigued.  So 7:30am the house was filled with wonderful banana smells and I could hardly wait for them to come out of the oven.  When they did come out I could not wait for them to cool so broke the butter out of the oven, grabbed a coffee and had the best start to a day I can remember in a long time.
