When you are making creamy sauces for pasta they have a tendency to go a little bit thick or cloying.  A way around this, and the way to make your creamy sauce silky and smooth is to add half a cup or so of the pasta water to the cream sauce just before you drain the pasta. It is amazing how some starchy water totally transforms the sauce.
