Red Pizza Van

I used to live in a little village of Wrotham and driving back and forth from Sevenoaks I used to see a pizza van on the side of the road in Ightham every Friday.  As you drove past you would smell it, the wood fire, that unmistakable smell of freshly cooked GREAT pizza.

I am not sure why I never stopped there to be honest when I lived in Wrotham but today it popped into my head and that was all I could think about.  So tonight, despite the fact moving the car will mean not being able to park in the road, off I trotted to Ightham in search of the great smelling pizza.

The menu is extensive for a pizza van and so deciding is always a challenge however, a firm favourite with me and one I tend to order often is ham and pineapple (YES, I know, it is like marmite but seriously, why would you NOT like pineapple on a pizza?) Another few favourites are the Crudo which has cured meats, parmesan and rocket and the Diavola, a spicy chilli and salami pizza.  We ordered and duly sat in the car 10 mins waiting, the lovely lady waved and done.  So simple and oh my gosh so good.

I don't think you can overestimate just how good the taste of a wood fired aged dough base pizza really is and how it transforms the whole pizza.  The toppings are generous, good quality ingredients and the whole thing was so divine. The diavola was spicy which may sound obvious since that is what we asked for but all too often you buy a spicy pizza and it is just a bit meh.

If you find yourself in or around Sevenoaks check out the little Red Pizza Van, you won't be sorry.
