These cookies are great to hang in the garden for when the reindeers stop.  Any leftover cookies will be enjoyed by the birds and will help them make it through the winter.  You will notice that there is chilli powder in this recipe, reindeer and birds are not bothered at all by Chilli.

Ingredients
250g lard or vegetable shortening
500g wild bird seed (this helps the reindeers fly!)
30g Dried cranberries
¼ tsp chilli powder (this helps keep the reindeers warm and keeps Rudolph's nose glowing red)
Garden twine or string

Method
Heat the lard or shortening in a saucepan over a low heat until just melted.  Add the chilli powder and carefully stir as it will be hot.  Add the cranberries and bird seed and thoroughly but carefully stir again.

Spread onto a sheet of cling film or baking parchment and put into the fridge for 10 mins to cool off. Remove and carefully cut into squares.  Take a skewer and push a hole towards the top of one of the corners. Put back into the fridge for a couple of hours to set.

When your reindeer cookies are set, put some string through the hole and tie a knot at the end.  Hang in your trees.
