Today we have a long drive to Bristol for Tracie’s birthday so I was scooting around the house and packing and getting our padkos together and thought I would make Kerryn and Ian a cake to say thank you for coming over to give Ninja his diabetes injections.

I found some gorgeous figs and thought they would make a lovely cake.  Looking in my flavour thesaurus I saw that hazelnuts are a good partner for figs and so made a fig and hazelnut strudel cake.  This is an ugly cake but the thing about ugly cakes is that they usually taste really good.
