We have been watching My Kitchen Rules - a TV show in South Africa and Australia.  It starts with 12 couples each taking it in turn to host the other couples and two judges in their instant restaurant. They set up their dining rooms with their signs and theme and decorations and their menu shows off the theme to their instant restaurant.  They get 6 hours to shop, set up their restaurant and prep their food before the guests arrive.  The guests mark their evening out of 10 and the guest judges mark every course out of 10.

At the end of both rounds the teams with the lowest scores are eliminated and then the show moves to the studio with various tasks until a winner is found.  To be honest it is only really the episodes in their houses that really interest me.  It is fascinating to see the menus and themes, see what works and doesn’t work, watch what happens and see how people cope with the pressure. The number of times it all falls apart truly amazes me. It also makes me laugh how the most judgemental people usually fail at their own evenings, knowing how to cook and how to deal with pressure are two very different things.

It is really interesting and really got me thinking about my food dream.  I know I am not young anymore but I am not so old I cannot dream.  I would really love to have a little boutique hotel in South Africa on the coast, with a little restaurant where we can cook and be happy.
