Today we flew out of Heathrow to Johannesburg to see Rhona's mum and family.  I know we are in covid times but wow Heathrow was appalling.  Almost all the shops were closed and the restaurants all closed at 6pm, not that there was any warning of that, it was just a deeply unpleasant surprise.  By 8pm everything was done and we were just sitting waiting for our gate.  Our flight ended up being 3 hours late with nothing open and then the plane was a horrible old Boeing 222 which was so uncomfortable.  Without a shadow of a doubt this was the worst flight/start to a holiday I have ever had. We didn’t remove our masks at all during the flight as we don’t want to take anything to SA or make anybody sick. The thought of the sun and our loved ones is what kept us going through the 20 horrible hours.

I had my Adam Liaw book Two Asian Kitchens to read on the flight although ended up just going to sleep dreaming of Wimpy. Roll on lunchtime tomorrow.
