Do you like mackerel pate? When it is good, it is very very good and homemade honestly cannot be beaten here. Usually home made can be a faff but, if you have a little food processor, this whole process takes under 5 minutes. Take the smoked mackerel fillets and peel off the skin. Slowly flake the mackerel into your processor, checking for bones as you go. Add cream cheese, a spoonful of creamed horseradish, a big squeeze of lemon, salt and pepper and blitz. Check the seasoning and adjust if needed. You can also add some more horseradish or lemon juice if you like. That is then it. This is very very good on toast or crackers as the pate is smooth and so the texture difference is welcomed.
As I went out at lunchtime with a colleague, I wanted to just have a simple quick snack and this was perfect.
