For Christmas I got Victoria an afternoon tea experience (as always) and today we went to Fortnum and Mason for our first afternoon tea that is not themed. The service at F&M is absolutely impeccable and Renju was wonderful.
He advised us we did not need to both go sweet and if we wanted to share we could do one sweet one savoury which is exactly what we ended up doing. We had the Royal Blend tea which is my favourite and also an Amelia cocktail (because, well, why not?). Our sandwiches were egg mayo, coronation chicken, smoked trout with cream cheese and dill, ham and mustard and cucumber with lemon and mint.
Then things were a little different. The savoury scones were roast potato and thyme and goats cheese and chive with marmite cream cheese and caramelised onion chutney.
The pastries were lobster cocktail tart, pork and sage sausage roll, a blini with smoked trout and herb roulade, stilton and walnut cheesecake (actually the only thing we were not keen on at all) and a wild mushroom profiterole. This was the first savoury afternoon tea we had had and I am so glad we did it, we enjoyed it very very much.
So moving on to the sweet, there were plain and fruit scones with clotted cream, strawberry jam and the nicest orange curd I have ever eaten in my life.
The pastries were a rose éclair, orange mousse, a dark chocolate and hazelnut praline mousse, a coconut loaf and a treacle tart.
Everything was exquisite and we enjoyed this so very much. This was the best service we have had, it was absolutely wonderful.
