I cannot believe we are less than 40 days away from Christmas.  That meant today was spent going through the bookshelves, finding my cooking books and reading through, trying to decide what to cook for our special Christmas family meal.

I don’t usually make turkey (well, honestly I never make turkey because, it is just not a meat I love so, if I do make a large turkey like bird, it is usually a cockerel which is a large male chicken, I much prefer the flavour), so this means that although we are therefore free to have anything, the difficulty is making it special and different to the run of the mill Sunday roast.

Then other things to consider are starters, which need to be light enough not to fill you up and be seasonal and Christmassy; puddings, we all like different things so it is trying to make something that we will all like or can be adapted; not repeating last years meal and yet still keeping some tradition.

I love Christmas so none of these things are awful, they just take lots of thinking about, copious amounts of notes and tags in books and whittling down the various recipes to come up with a perfect menu.  I do adore this time of year and am feeling full of Christmas spirit.  I just need to keep a bit of a lid on it until 1st December when it is deemed acceptable to the rest of the world.
