Tonight I made a mushroom sauce to go with our steak, just the usual mushrooms, shallots, garlic, Marsala, cream and seasoning. What turned it from delicious into special was the addition of a tsp of porcini powder. It is amazing how such a small amount of dried mushroom powder can make such a difference. I also made these gorgeous shallow fried potatoes, which were so sweet and salty and crispy and lovely that from the second they are ready you just pick at the potatoes, not just me but everybody sneaks into the kitchen, burns their fingers and steals a few. The perfect meal that made us all smile.
I also ordered the next book of the month, Masala by Mallika Basu. I cannot wait to get into it.
