28th February 2026
After many years on and off of trying to get to Restaurant Nathan Outlaw (then New Road) we have finally made it. Was it worth the long journey and the wait? Yes absolutely and how sad it (like many other restaurants in the last 12-18 months) is closing.
We started the day visiting Porthilly Seafood where Natalie had arranged for us to be shown around by Matt. The whole visit was amazing, learning how they grow their oysters and seeing the wonderful produce on offer. Matt then gave us the most creamy gorgeous oysters to take with us and a couple of native oysters (which are really not for me). It was so interesting to taste the difference between the two and certainly for me the grown ones are much nicer.
Then off to Nathan we went in the evening. The building and view gorgeous the food impeccable.
Porthilly Oysters: Raw with shallot vinegar and lemon and; Crispy With cavolo nero and herb mayonnaise
Scallop with Ginger, fennel and yoghurt
Cured brill with onion, chilli, parsnip and sardine
Gurnard with mushroom puree and a pancetta crumb
Crab risotto with orange and basil
Brill with Porthilly sauce, savoy cabbage and a potato terrine
Tunworth tart with walnut, beetroot and celery
Passionfruit with vanilla cream and a sweet wine jelly
São Tomé Chocolate fondant with pistachio, espresso and a yoghurt sorbet
My favourite dish was the brill with mushrooms (or the crab???? So hard to decide!) and my least favourite the Tunworth tart - not because it was awful but just the weakest dish out of many strong amazing ones.
The whole evening was relaxed but so so amazing.
